Oncologic Critical Care Fellowship 2026-2027

Why Apply?

Patients with active cancer represent a growing proportion of admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) worldwide. At the same time, cancer care is evolving rapidly, with novel therapies significantly altering treatment approaches and patient outcomes across both hematologic malignancies and solid tumours. As a result, managing critically ill cancer patients has become increasingly complex.

While all intensivists should be aware of the core principles of oncologic critical care, we believe that dedicated expertise is essential in high-volume, specialized centers. There is also a clear and pressing need for more high-quality research at the intersection of oncology and critical care medicine.

Our Oncologic Critical Care Fellowship is designed to equip intensivists with the clinical experience and academic foundation to lead in this emerging field. The program offers:

1. Clinical rotations at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Canada’s largest cancer centre and a global leader in oncology, offering exposure to stem cell transplantation, acute leukemia, CAR T-cell therapy, novel immunotherapies, and cutting-edge clinical trials.

2. ICU exposure at Mount Sinai Hospital, a 27-bed unit serving as the ICU for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

3. Experience managing patients from Mount Sinai Hospital’s advanced surgical oncology program, including complex sarcoma resections, major head and neck reconstructions, and HIPEC procedures, who frequently require postoperative care in the ICU.

Our goal is to train future leaders in oncologic critical care who are not only skilled in managing complex cases but who will also advance the field through research, education, and system-level innovation.
